How to Use the Image Compressor
Reduce image file size quickly and privately — all compression happens in your browser and your files never leave your device.
Step 1: Upload Your Images
You can add images in two easy ways:
- Drag and Drop: Drag your image files from a folder on your computer and drop them onto the upload area that says "Click to upload or drag and drop".
- Click to Upload: Click anywhere inside the upload area to open your computer’s file browser. Select the images you wish to compress.
Note: You can upload a maximum of 20 images at a time. Supported formats: JPG
, PNG
, and GIF
.
Step 2: Review the Compression Queue
After you add images, they appear in the Compression Queue. Each image is shown on its own card with status information:
- Spinner: Indicates the image is being automatically compressed using the default quality setting.
- Preview: When compression completes, the spinner is replaced with an image preview.
- Size Details: You’ll see the Original size, the new Compressed size, and the percentage reduction (for example,
-75%
).
Step 3: Adjust Compression Quality (Optional)
If the automatic compression result isn’t what you want, adjust quality for each image individually:
- Use the Quality slider on the image card.
- Drag the slider left to reduce quality and make the file size smaller.
- Drag the slider right to increase quality — this will make the file larger but improve visual fidelity.
- The preview and size details update in real time as you move the slider.
Step 4: Download Your Compressed Images
Choose how you want to save the compressed images:
- Download Individually: Click the Download button on any image card to save just that compressed image.
- Download All: After all images in the queue are processed, click Download All (.zip) at the top of the queue to save every compressed image together in one ZIP file.
Important: All compressed images — regardless of original format (including PNG and GIF) — will be saved as .jpg
files.
Step 5: Clear the Queue
To start a new batch of images, click the Clear Queue button. This removes all current images from the processing area so you can upload a fresh set.
Tips & Best Practices
- If you need transparency (alpha channel), save a copy before compressing — the compressor outputs JPG files which do not support transparency.
- For photos, a moderate quality reduction usually yields large file-size savings with minimal visible difference.
- For images with text, logos, or very sharp edges, preview carefully after compression to avoid readability loss.
- Compress smaller batches if you want finer control over per-image quality adjustments.
